{Project Description}

The visualization community recognizes the challenges people face in understanding complex visual data. Through an empirical study, my research has detailed the difficulties encountered in the visualization sensemaking process and the strategies visualization viewers employ to overcome these challenges. Our findings inform the design and integration of interactions, inspired by natural user behaviors, into self-explanatory visualizations that are accessible and beneficial to all. This approach aims to simplify data visualization sensemaking and enhance user engagement and data exploration.
